PRAGUE GIRL SAVED GOOGLE AND APPLE COMPANIES FROM RISK
Do not look down on girls. They not only create the world but also save the world with their skills. This is what a little girl in Prague, Czech Republic, proved. To the dismay of security investigators, the malware was spotted and the coats were stolen.
Thus saving tech companies crores of rupees in lost revenue. No matter how much action is taken on the security of apps in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, the threat of scammers is inevitable. Researchers have found that these apps, which target children, have been downloaded more than 2.4 million times.
Going into details, seven fake apps have so far stolen $ 5 lakh (approximately Rs 3.7 crore) from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Advertising for these fraudulent apps is mainly played on TickTalk, Instagram, and other social media apps.
These usually maintain a low profile through malware. These apps are earning between $ 10 per user. However, a baby who saw similar ads on TikTac complained about this. Avast reported this to the ‘Be Safe’ online project that tells children how to be safe online. The matter came to light as they did more research in the field.
Researchers at the Censor Tower say that these could be wallpaper, music or entertainment apps, which are used to spread adware scams. Researchers also say that promoting social media apps, such as TicTac and Instagram, which have millions of followers, is "painful." Even those with 5 thousand to 33 lakh followers are promoting this app.
Avast thanked the child for bringing this to their attention. Also, Google immediately removed the app from the Play Store after finding out about it through researchers. Apple has not yet commented on this.
