 RUSSIA SOLD WARSHIPS FOR PEPSI

RUSSIA SOLD WARSHIPS FOR PEPSI | 2021 | 3 BILLION DOLLARS

Trade dates back a few centuries. It is part of the trade to give one commodity for another and to acquire one commodity by paying enough for it. In the same way, countries and companies pay for their goods and import them from other countries. However, the former Soviet Union sold their warships in exchange for money to import Pepsi soda into their country. Wondering why warships sell for soft drinks? Read for yourself why that situation arose.

LAUNCHING PEPSI TO RUSSIA:-

In 1959, to commemorate the friendship between the United States and the Soviet Union (formerly Russia), the Soviet government set up a large exhibition in New York to introduce technology to the United States. That same year the United States set up an exhibition in Moscow to showcase its products to the Soviets. The exhibition was visited by then US Vice President Richard Nixon and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev.

The two quarreled over communism and capitalism. Notice this. M. Kendall, Vice President, Marketing, PepsiCo, who came to showcase their products at the exhibition, brought Pepsi in a glass and presented it to Nikita Khrushchev. His taste was well-liked by the Soviet authorities. It was decided to import Pepsi permanently to the Soviets.

AGREEMENT FOR PEPSI IMPORTS:-

The Soviet Union signed an agreement with Pepsi in 1972 after repeated negotiations. But here's the problem with paying money. The Soviet currency, the ruble, was not recognized internationally at the time. The Soviet Union demanded that Vodka be exported to the United States and that Pepsi be imported instead. An agreement was reached with this .. Pepsi to the Soviets .. Vodka was exported to America. The Soviet people became addicted to Pepsi Cooldrink.

This has led to a huge increase in Pepsi purchases in that country. Soviet vodka, on the other hand, was very sinful in America. This trade has been going well in both countries for some years. But then came another problem.

SALE OF WARSHIPS:-

The United States was outraged by the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the 1980s. Decided not to use Soviet products in America. As part of this, the United States banned the import of vodka from there. This again put a damper on payments in the Pepsi-Soviet deal. The Soviet Union, which did not want Pepsi to stop importing into their country, signed a worldwide deal with the company. Pepsi has commissioned 17 Soviet submarines and three warships. They took the money from selling them under the rust and asked them to supply Pepsi to their country. They are valued at $ 3 billion (current value of Rs 22,000 crore). The warships remained under Pepsi control for some time after Pepsi agreed to the deal. It was then handed over to a Swedish company to be scrapped. Interestingly, Pepsi was the largest naval powerhouse in the world at the time of the Pepsi-owned warships.
